While there are always those intrepid souls who like the DYI trend of today and are determined to do everything themselves, the rest of the world's home owners would rather tackle something that isn't quite as complex for the most part. That is why there are professional curtain and blind fitters available to take on this task and make it look easy. With all the measuring and checking to make sure of width and length for blinds and curtains as well as checking for level to make sure everything is straight side-to-side, this job can get complex fast when there are lots of windows to deal with in the home.
Proportion and Balance - Take into account issues such as size, shape and visual weight. A lightweight set of curtains in a dark color, for example, can appear to be very heavy. And beautifully pleated drapes can come off as “just not enough” if they fit too tightly to the windows. Seeing your room as blocks of color will help to provide balance and proportion.
Holdbacks and tiebacks serve the same purpose: to gently scoop up your curtains and hold them at the side of the window. Holdbacks are attached directly to the wall. Tiebacks are often lengths of cording, some with tassel ends that tie around the \"belly\" of your open curtains to hold them back. So here you are then, ready to make that plan, Stan, for creating a room you'll love - all by beginning with the perfect curtain rods!... Who'd a though?
Cafe Curtains - Traditional Home: If a traditional home look is what you want, the brass rods with finial will be great for you. Or you can use spring loaded rods for that matter, it all depends on your personal taste. Brass rod is usually hanged by small brackets, which someone find cute, but you must know that they will be visible on your window frame. So if you don't like that, skip it. Choose spring loaded rods because they will fit on your window frame without being visible. The pocket on your cafe curtain will make sure of that.
While sewing your curtains make sure that they are not too long-they should just clear the ground. Although long, flowing curtains are beautiful to look at, the extra length will pick up dust and will need cleaning often. Fabrics differ so be sure to check if your choice drapes well. Hold it up against light to be sure the weight doesn't distort the fabric. If you are picking up a curtain with either printed or woven patterns on it, take care while sewing. These patterns will be repeated at regular intervals and you must start your hem at the same place for every cut. While buying material for your window curtains you will usually have two widths to choose from: 54 inches and between 110 and 118 inches wide. The latter is used if you decide not to line your fabric and don't want your curtains to have seams.
